How to Dermaplane at Home: The Best Tips for Removing Peach Fuzz Safely

Whether you’re looking to tidy your brows, remove unwanted facial hair or simply create a smoother base for makeup, facial shaving has become an increasingly popular step in beauty routines. It’s easy to do at home and we’ve created a detailed step by step dermaplane guide to achieve the best results!

          What is dermaplaning?

          • Dermaplaning is essentially a professional treatment which removes dead skin cells and unwanted fine hair (“peach fuzz”).
          • Exfoliates the skin, removing dead skin cells leaving your skin feeling softer, smoother, and brighter.
          • Create a smoother base for applying skincare and make up!
          • Tidies your brows quickly and precisely
          • Helps reduce the appearance of dry patches.

How can you achieve dermaplaning at home?

Using a correct step by step guide you can remove facial hair, leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth!

          Step 1.

          Assessing your skin type:

If you have extremely sensitive or acne prone skin, we advise to not try dermaplaning at home as you may risk further skin irritation.

          Step 2.

          What you’ll need:

          • Purchase the right tool for you! The Wilkinson Sword Perfect Finish Eyebrow Razors can be used for both face and eyebrow hair removal, available at Savers!
          • A gentle cleanser
          • A clean towel,
          • Hydrating serum or moisturiser
          • SPF 30+ sunscreen

          Step 3.

          Prepping your skin

Cleansing your skin is a very important first step. Make sure to wash your face with a gentle cleanser to remove makeup, oil and dirt.

Use warm water to also open your pores to make the shaving process easier. Pat your skin completely dry before starting.

          Step 4.

Prepare the facial razor and begin lightly shaving.

Hold your skin taut by using one hand to gently stretch the area you’re working on. This creates a smoother surface and helps reduce the chance of nicks.

Lightly drag the facial razor in a downward motion on your face to remove unwanted hairs. Work in small sections around your face i.e. forehead, cheeks, upper lip and chin.

Use a clean tissue to wipe away hairs as you go.

          Step 5.

          Eyebrow shaping

If you want to shape your brows, apply the eyelash protection guard on your eyelashes. This can be found in the Wilkinson Sword Intuition Eyebrow Shaper pack.

          • Brush your eyebrow hairs upward with a spoolie brush so you can clearly see the natural shape.
          • Stretch the skin gently with one hand to create a smooth surface.
          • Use short, light strokes with the razor to remove only the fine hairs outside your natural brow shape.
          • It’s better to remove a few hairs at a time and check your progress frequently.
          • Avoid shaving into the main body of your eyebrow.

          Step 6.

          After care

Gently wash your face afterwards with cool water and pat your skin dry with a clean towel.

Apply a hydrating and rich moisturiser to your skin once your face is dry to complete your dermaplaning session!

If you’re heading outside, make sure to also apply a strong SPF to protect your skin which may be sensitive to UV exposure.

How often should you dermaplane at home?

Doing this treatment too often can irritate the skin, most people only need to repeat facial shaving every 3–4 weeks, depending on how quickly their hair grows.
