4 Need-to-know tips for your fitness journey

Whether you work out regularly or plan to get fitter now, nutrition is key to hitting your fitness goals. Not only does nutrition play an important role in our body’s overall health, but it also helps to provide us with more energy. And the more energy we have, the more we’re ready to smash through the next workout! A simple way to ensure you’re getting the variety of nutrients you need is to eat a balanced, healthy diet. You could also consider a supplement to support you. To help you get the most from your training, here are our top tips for your fitness journey.

          1 – Eat a Mediterranean Diet

Eating a balanced diet is important for so many aspects of aging, not just for your joints. A Mediterranean diet is one of the best approaches you can adopt because it is easy to understand and rests on the principles of healthy eating. This way of eating focuses on including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, oily fish, healthy fats, and olive oil.

Omega-3 fatty acids are abundant in a Mediterranean diet. The best source of omega-3 is oily fish, particularly those with the acronym ‘SMASH’ – salmon, mackerel, anchovies, sardines, and herring. But don’t worry if you don’t eat fish, you can still get omega-3 from plant-based sources like nuts, seeds, and green leafy vegetables.

2 – Give your heart a helping hand with Omega-3

Omega 3s support three major organs in our body – the heart[1], brain and eyes[2]. Omega-3 consists of EPA and DHA which are essential contributors to the normal function of the heart1. The human body cannot produce Omega-3 from scratch, so making sure we consume it through nutrition is especially important for our health and fitness.

The UK government recommends that we eat two portions (140g) of fish per week, and one should be oily fish. This is a great way to get enough Omega-3 in your diet. Eating the recommended amount of Omega-3 fats DHA and EPA in your diet, including adding in an Omega-3 supplement, is an excellent way to meet the minimum amount of 250mg (DHA+EPA) a day to support your heart1. Seven Seas JointCare Active is formulated with EPA and DHA. It also has Glucosamine, Chondroitin, Manganese, Zinc, Vitamin C and Vitamin D When the heart functions normally, it pumps blood over 100,000 times to our body!

3 – Support your energy levels

B-vitamins play a vital role in maintaining overall health and wellbeing. There are eight different types of water-soluble B-vitamins: each with different purposes. Out of these, 1B1, B2 and B6 contribute to normal energy release and help support the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. These three B vitamins also support the normal working of your nervous system.

Foods such as meat, fish and wholegrains are great sources of B1. Most sources of B vitamins are found naturally in the foods we eat but sometimes specific dietary preferences can mean it is difficult to consume enough of them. Seven Seas Complete Multivitamins contain a blend essential multivitamins and minerals, including vitamins B1, B2 and B6 to support your daily intake.

          4 – Supports your joints

Exercising helps to make our bones stronger too, building them up when we are younger and maintaining strength as we grow older. Exercising regularly helps to support healthy bone tissue. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble nutrient which contributes to healthy bones as well as helping the function of our muscles[1]. Seven Seas JointCare Active contains Vitamin D, which also helps the body absorb calcium and phosphorus. Seven Seas JointCare Active is also formulated with Vitamin C to support to support bones and cartilage[2]. It also has the added benefits of Manganese for connective tissue[3].
